Rawalpindi Ring Road (RRR) Construction Work To Finally Begin
Rawalpindi- Prime Minister Pakistan Imran Khan laid the foundation stone of the 20-year-old plan for Rawalpindi Ring Road construction at Thalian, near Islamabad-Lahore Motorway, on Saturday.
The project will be completed in two years. The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) officials stated in a meeting with the Prime Minister that the Punjab government is prioritizing the construction of the Ring Road due to the occurring traffic problems in Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
They further said that traffic congestion will reduce due to the ring road as it offers an alternative route by connecting N-5 and M-2.
The Ring Road, costing Rs 33.7 billion, will be 38.3 Km long- starting from the national highway (N-5) at Baanth. It will pass through Chakbeli Road, Chakri Road, and Adyala Road and end at Thalian Interchange at the Motorway (M-2).
According to a source, RDA Chief Engineer Dr. Habibul Haq Randhawa stated that Frontier Works Organization (FWO) has been awarded the contract for the construction of RR.
Construction work of the project will include bridges, underpasses, grade-separated interchanges, etc. The RR will include six lanes and 5 interchanges.
The development project will give out many economic benefits by providing a hassle-free commute. Consequently, traffic congestion is likely to be reduced by a great amount.
