Punjab Govt Generates Rs650m for Installation of Tube-Wells
Islamabad: For the purpose of resolving the water shortage difficulties in six densely populated union councils of Rawalpindi, the Punjab government has authorised the expenditure of Rs650 million for the installation of tube-wells along the Islamabad Expressway.
The Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) would construct six tube-wells alongside the Islamabad Expressway to address the Potohar Town union councils’ water scarcity problem. Shakriyal East and West, Khanna Dak, Khanna Kak, Chaklala, Dhok Munshi, and Gangal will all receive water from the tube-wells.
In order to address water shortages in various parts of Rawalpindi, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) previously granted the WASA a no-objection certificate (NOC) for the installation of 15 tube-wells on the Islamabad Expressway.
A large underground water reservoir is reportedly present in the green space between Koral Chowk and Zia Masjid. Pipelines will be installed from tube-wells in the green regions to the UCs for the water supply. According to officials, the pipes will be put in place in six to nine months and the tube-wells will be installed in three months to deliver water from the installed tube-wells.
The Punjab government has now revived the project, and the Rawalpindi commissioner has been given instructions to seek for bids and begin construction on the project right now, the former Federal Parliamentary Secretary Sheikh Rashid Shafiq confirmed. He claimed that once the project is finished, all of the highly inhabited UCs in NA-60 will no longer have any water issues.
Furthermore, according to the CDA’s NOC, the tube wells would supply 50% of the water for the current supply network inside the boundaries of the Islamabad Capital Territory.
The tube wells will be under combined observation by the CDA, ICT, and WASA. The NOC further stated that the WASA would be required to pay for the rehabilitation of the CDA-installed tube wells in the event of a drought caused by the declining groundwater level inside CDA limits.
The NOC stated that the ICT, CDA, and WASA will work together to choose the location for the installation of 15 tube-wells. The tube-wells would be taken out if the Islamabad Expressway is ever enlarged, according to the NOC.
