GB’s Economic Growth lies in its Tourism sector – President Dr Arif Alvi
President Dr Arif Alvi said that the tourism sector of Gilgit Baltistan (GB) should be explored to support its economic growth. He further stated that investment in diverse sectors would boost the economy and growth of the country.
The tourism industry of GB is an engine of economic development and GDP growth as this sector plays an important role in boosting a nation’s economy. An increase in tourism flow can bring positive economic outcomes, especially in gross domestic product (GDP) and employment opportunities for its people.
Speaking to the provincial cabinet of Gilgit Baltistan Secretariat, the president said that the GB can play an active role in contributing to the prosperity of the country as its tourism sector serves as a key force for sustainable socioeconomic development.
The president said that GB is rich in alternative energy resources which needs to be explored. Dr Alvi mentioned that Prime Minister Imran Khan is considering launching a project regarding the expansion of Gilgit Airport, a draft of which would have been shared with the GB government.

These areas have relics of distinct lands exclusive to its heritage and it is hallowed as a top destination with an astonishing collection of many attractive rivers, mountains, lakes, and valleys. Only a few regions in the world can present a high-class combination of magnificent natural attraction, a rich variety of socio–economic systems, and history as offered by Himalayan and Hindukush regions of Pakistan.
