CDA Set To Construct 3kms Of Rawalpindi Ring Road
Islamabad: The Punjab government and Capital Development Authority (CDA) have resolved the construction issue of a 3 km section of Rawalpindi Ring Road.
Ring Road will connect MI (Peshawar Islamabad Motorway) to GT Road near Sangjani. It will also be connected to Margalla Road of Islamabad, where an interchange will be constructed.
Another interchange (N-5) is likely to be built near Wapda Town.
Construction of Margalla Road from Sanjgani (D-12) is already underway, where it will be connected to Khayaban-e-Iqbal.
Last year, the concerned departments of Rawalpindi made several attempts to construct the entire section of the 3.4 km road. Still, the CDA did not agree, saying that the civic body could not allow any local body to build the road within its boundaries.
In February this year, Prime Minister Imran Khan, in support of the CDA’s vision, decided that the CDA would build the part of the road that falls within its boundaries.
Sources said that it was also decided that Punjab and CDA would acquire separate lands in their respective areas, but CDA would do construction work.
CDA officials said that 1.6 km road falls within the limits of Islamabad while 1.8 km is located in Punjab.
Sources further said that work on Margalla Road is underway, and it is likely to be completed by the end of July next year.
