Eid-ul-Azha a reminder of civic responsibilities
Eid-ul-Azha across the world is celebrated with great zeal and festivity by the Muslims. As compared to the other festivals, Eid-ul-Adha has a position of its own in the hearts since it is celebrated in the remembrance of Sunnat-e-Ibrahimi after performing Hajj. Every year, Eid-ul-Azha also reminds us of the fact that there is a dire need of performing social responsibilities religiously in terms of ensuring cleanliness, including the needy in the festivities of eid, and managing personal health. The act of sacrificing animals has a sacred position in Islam which needs to be performed with great responsibility while ensuring cleanliness.
On the part of ensuring social responsibility and ensuring cleanliness, animals should be sacrificed in slaughterhouses or the places dedicated for slaughtering animals by the municipalities or administration. Similarly, a special place should be where the blood of animals can be disposed of in a proper manner. Usually, pits are dug so that blood does not mix in water bodies or sewerage systems. Similarly, the remains of animals shall also be taken care of in a proper manner. As a civic responsibility, and to avoid unwanted odor, the remains shouldn’t be thrown in the streets rather handed over to the staff for ensuring healthy surroundings. The meaning of sacrifice shall not be only restricted to literal terms rather the essence of sacrifice should be ensured in a true sense. It has been observed that once the animal has been slaughtered, the feed is thrown away or rots in street. Similarly, the remaining feed can also be used for composting which can be added to the soil for the growth of plants.
Along with performing civic responsibilities, there is also a need of catering to personal health. Every household on eid makes special arrangements for cooking meat. Overeating can pose a major challenge and can also ruin your eid celebrations thus, a person should avoid filling themselves with meat in order to avoid gastric issues. As the fourth wave of a pandemic is emanating in the country, we should also keep in mind the precautionary measure so that any unforeseen situation can be avoided.
