CDA Directs Environment Wing To Reinstate Islamabad’s Scenic Beauty
Islamabad: Muhammad Usman, Chairman of the Capital Development Authority (CDA), has given the Environment Wing a 10-day deadline to restore the Federal Capital’s beauty.
In accordance with the strategy, the Environment Wing began with clearing out overgrown and unkempt grass from medians, triangles, parks, and green belts that had sprung up as a result of recent rains.
Director General of Environment Irfan Niazi told APP on Thursday that wild bushes and shrubs were getting removed first because they greatly disrupt Islamabad’s beauty. These wild bushes and shrubs also give a platform for dengue larvae breeding.
The workers were clearing grass and plants from major roads and avenues, especially from green belts and median strips, during the initial phase of the campaign, he added. In conclusion, the streets and residential areas would be cleaned.
He claimed that the task was being completed with the aid of labour and specialised grass cutting equipment. Special teams were created in this regard, and their performance was tracked daily.
Moreover, he stated that the plantation campaign was also in progress and that in collaboration with the climate change ministry and non-governmental groups, thousands of saplings of native plant species had been planted.
He insisted that the effort to plant trees along roads and highways would go hand in hand with the fight to eliminate invasive shrubs and grass.
