CDA Instructs Evacuation of High-Rise Buildings Affected by Recent Earthquake
Islamabad: Owners of recent earthquake-affected high-rise buildings have been ordered to evacuate their structures until they acquire a fitness certificate from approved companies by the Capital Development Authority (CDA).
Due to the recent high intensity earthquake, the Building Control Agency of the CDA has found minor cracks in 10 high-rise buildings in Islamabad. In accordance with the CDA Chairman’s instructions, the Building Control Agency examined 90 high-rise buildings and discovered that 80 of them had secure structures, while 10 had only tiny flaws.
The owners of the damaged buildings have been ordered to either make repairs or obtain a fitness certificate for their structures from a company recognised by the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) and submit it to the CDA. A third-party attestation will also be needed.
A survey of the buildings on their property must be conducted by the management of private housing societies, and a report must be sent to the DA’s Building Control Agency within three days, according to a directive from the DA Chairman.
Apartment dwellers in the affected buildings have also asked for alternative housing during the restoration time. They claimed that moving furniture would be challenging for them during the holy month of Ramadan.
